Tilbury 3, Haringey Borough 2

TILBURY got their first Isthmian North victory of the campaign, coming out on top in front of a Bank Holiday Monday crowd of 305 against Haringey Borough by the odd goal in five at the EMR Stadium on Monday (26 August).

The Dockers, who grabbed their first point of the season two days earlier at Maldon, went ahead after just six minutes through Lewis Clark who got on the end of Alex Akrofi's lofted pass and produced a precise finish.

Akrofi, who had been restored to the starting line-up, was buzzing and another cross set up Harry Donovan but he just failed to force the ball over the line. And moments later he set up another chance for Donovan, who this time was denied by a fine block from Addo-Kufour.

Akrofi was also involved in Dockers' second goal, combining well to set up Donovan whose cross was headed home by Lewis Manor from close range.

Christian North was Dockers' hero when he saved a penalty in the closing stages of the first half, diving to his right to acrobatically keep out the normally prolific Derek Asamoah's driven spot-kick but four minutes after the break Manny Yeboah gave the visiting fans hope by pulling a goal back with a well-struick shot that gave North no chance.

Within two minutes, however, Akrofi got his own name on the scoreline as he made it three-one to the hosts when his free-kick flew off the post into the net.

Fred Agyemang pulled a goal back for Borough 14 minutes from time with a header at the end of a counter-attack.

That to set up a grandstand finish and Borough went close in the final moments when only a vital intervention from Tilbury man-of-the-match Connor Martin relieved the pressure. That was to be the last chance on the goalscoring front and Tilbury had their first three-pointer in the bag!

This coming weekend Tilbury resume their FA Cup journey, with a home First Qualifying Round against Thurlow Nunn Premier Division side Brantham Athletic.
