Millers players and supporters celebrate the win at Salisbury.

Salisbury 0, Aveley 2

MILLERS enjoyed a first National League South victory since early February at relegation-threatened Whites on Saturday (12 April).

Already condemned to the drop, Millers were under no pressure, while Salisbury were desperate as they sit just a place above the relegation zone.

In the end a goal in each half from Harry Beadle and Junior Nkwonta proved decisive, much to the delight of the travelling fans - who have offered magnificent support throughout a difficult season - while the home team left the pitch to a chorus of criticism from their terraces.

Salisbury had started well and Josh Hedges shot just over the bar inside the first six minutes.

But Aveley gained a foothold and Jack McDowell saw his half-volleyed effort fly just over the bar.

Salisbury did carry a threat, particularly through Hedges, who saw his deflected shot saved comfortably by James Holden in the Aveley goal.

The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes when a long throw created confusion in the Salisbury box and the ball was tapped home by Harry Beadle.

Aveley held the lead at half time thanks to a great save from Holden who denied Ronan Silva just before the break.

And they were to seal a welcome win in the 69th minute when Salisbury's defence went AWOL, allowing Nkwonta an opportunity to net - though the home side were incensed the ref hadn't stopped play for what appeared to be a head injury to  Sam German.

There was no way back for the Whites after that and Millers secured their seventh league win of the season ahead of Good Friday's home derby against Chelmsford City.

After the match Millers confirmed that assistant manager Craig Shipman will be leaving the club, alongside manager Danny Scopes, at the end of the season.
