Slough 2, Aveley 0
THERE was disappointment for Aveley whose tenure at the top of the Vanarama National South proved to be brief with Saturday's (9 september) defeat.
After a series of excellent results against sides challenging at the top, Millers manager Danny Scopes had warned his side faced a very tough test at lowly Slough – and so it proved.
George Alexander put the hosts ahead at Arbour Park after ten minutes. After a quick counter attack Millers keeper Jonathan North was beaten by the striker as he as fired the ball into the bottom left corner.
Slough were to have much the better of the first half but dogged Millers went into the break just a single goal behind and had hopes of a second half revival.
However, it was not to be as there was a similar start to the second half.
Again, ten minutes into the stanza, Alexander was involved as he picked up a pass on halfway and drove at the heart of the Aveley defence, beating three men before forcing North to make a last ditch save. However the ball only bounced as far as Dom Hutchinson, who had the simple task of tapping the ball home to make it 2-0.
Aveley came closest in the closing stages of the 90 minutes, as substitute Nana Kyei's curling effort only narrowly missed the top corner of Rohan Luthra's net, with the ball clattering off the outside of his left upright.
