Aveley win 4-2 on penalties

DESPITE a dramatic late comeback from their Isthmian North hosts, Aveley are through to the fourth round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup after winning a penalty shoot-out at the Aspect arena on Canvey Island on Tuesday (13 October) evening.

Aveley looked to be home and hosed with a goal in each half, but Concord netted through Toheeb Adebanjo Elegushi with ten minutes to go - and produced an equaliser from Connor Hart in the sixth minute of added time.

Millers, who gave a first team debut to young goalkeeper George Miller 24 hours after he played for Aveley in the FA Youth Cup, had taken the lead from the penalty spot on 33 minutes through Shad Ngandu after Prosper Keto had been fouled.

And when Malachi Napa took advantage of a mistake in the home defence to put his side two up on 62 minutes Millers looked on course for a comfortable win.

However, a side criticised by manager Alex Akrofi for not being clinical at the weekend showed the same failing and the game went to sudden death.

Miller saved Concord's first kick, taken by Hart, and Ngandu gave Millers the shoot-out lead. Reggie Gregory got the home side off the mark but Napa restored the advantage

Like fellow normal time scorer Hart, Elegushi failed with his penalty which came back off a post, before Albie Armin drilled one home for the visitors.

Khris Oti kept Concord in it but Francis Mampolo held his nerve to seal a 4-2 spot kick win and put Millers through.
