AFC Hornchurch 1, Aveley 2 (AET)
FOR the third time in succession Aveley travelled to Hornchurch Stadium and came away with a victory – this time the prize being an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie with Barnet.
It is the first time the Millers have reached this stage of the competition for 39 years and comes after a late equaliser from Charlie Hughes forced extra time and substitute Matt Rush bagged a winner with the tie just six minutes away from being decided on penalties.
After being beaten at home in last season's Isthmian Premier campaign and then in the play-off final in May Hornchurch were hoping it was going to be a case of third time luck – and that looked a possibility when Sam Higgins fired the hosts ahead on the half hour.
But Aveley are a super resilient team under the management of Danny Scopes and they battled back to earn the tie with former League side and National league high-fliers Barnet.
They also pocketed £5,625 prizemoney and are guaranteed at least £3,125 from the Barnet tie on Saturday, 14 October, with the winners getting £9,375.
