Aveley 1, Wingate and Finchley 0

A 39th minute goal from Harry Gibbs was enough to secure victory for Aveley at Parkside on Saturday, 14 January.

The Millers dominated the match and missed a number of good chances to extend the scoreline, most notably when awarded a penalty on the hour.

George Sykes was fouled to win it and he took the spot kick but it was saved by Wingate keeper Ben Goode.

Wingate appeared happy to sit back and defend from the start and the wonder of a first half when Aveley threatened throughout was that they only had Gibbs' goal to show for their superiority. It came when the ball fell to him in the box and he reacted quickly to hook it home with his left foot.

The dominance continued throughout the second half with Gibbs going close to a second but his effort struck the post.

A late flurry as Wingate finally unshackled their attackers caused moments of worry but Millers held on for the win.
