Tilbury 1, Wroxham 0

TILBURY kept their Isthmian North play-off hopes very much alive with Saturday's narrow win at Chadfields, which was achieved thanks to a goal from sub Darren Phillips and keeps them on the coattails of fifth-placed Brightlingsea Regent – who pulled off one of the results of a surprising day in the division with a 1-0 win against second-placed Bury.

Regent were the only side in the top five to win.

Dockers made just one change to the starting 11 from Tuesday night's late win against Mildenhall, with Oli Spooner replacing Macauley Joynes. Phillips returned after suspension but started on the bench.

The first chance of a game played out in front of healthy crowd of 315 came after 20 minutes and it fell the way of the hosts. Spooner was at the heart of the attack, sliding a pass through to Harrison Day who attempted to lift the ball over the keeper. However, his effort bounced just wide of the far post.

Following the break, Kieran Jones came close when he took a diagonal pass into his stride brilliantly. The wing-back carried the ball into the area but his eventual shot was saved by Tom Coombe.

Fans had to wait until the 66th minute for the next piece of action when Wroxham unleashed their weapon of a long throw. Tilbury had multiple opportunities but failed to clear and allowed Jordan King to attempt a volley that kissed the outside of the post as it travelled wide.

The deadlock was finally broken with 15 minutes left to play when Wroxham were only able to head the ball out as far as Phillips. The super sub lined up his strike and cannoned a beautiful volley past the keeper to win Tilbury all three points.

Dockers resume the chase for promotion on Saturday (29 March) when they travel to Gorleston.

Squad: Middlehurst, Fry (Stewart), Jones (Trendall), Hayes (Phillips), Clark L, Martin, Clark J, Reynolds, Spooner ©, Day (Joynes), Hernandez. Unused sub: Terry.
