THERE was mixed fortune this evening (Tuesday, 21 February) for the borough's two sides in Isthmian North action.

East Thurrock United completed a second successive win at Rookery Hill with a 2-0 success against bottom club Great Wakering Rovers.

Johnny Ashman set the scene with a fifth minute opener and when Harry Hope grabbe a second on 20 minutes it appeared the visitors might cave in.

However, they remained competitive and there were to be no further goals, though Rocks will be satisfied at having extended their unbeaten run to five matches.

It was a not dissimilar story at Chadfields, only this time it was the visitors who grabbed – and held on to – a first half lead.

Witham Town, just a place above the Dockers, were the targets in the sights of Scott Dash's team as he seeks to drag them up the table away from the relegation zone, but what target-striking was to happen was at the wrong end for Tilbury as defensive frailty cost them dear.

During the evening Dash's three latest signings, striker Charlie Heatley, defender Ayo Shogbeni and Leyton Orient loanee Sahid Nallo all got into the action but Abdul-Rasheed Ajani-Salau grabbed Town's first on 29 minutes and just two minutes later the lead was doubled by Michael Bareck and that was it as far as scoring was concerned and Dockers slumped to a tenth home defeat of the league season.

Their away form is much better and they will be pleased to be on the road at the weekend – though they are not going far – a borough derby at Parkside against promotion-chasing Grays Athletic awaits.
