THE cold weather has once again taken toll of borough sporting fixtures this afternoon (Saturday, 11 January) – but there will be action on two artificial surfaces.

The Isthmian North clashes involving Grays Athletic (due to host Brightlingsea) and Tilbury (at Sporting Bengal's Mile End Stadium) were called off after pitch inspections.

However, Aveley FC;'s home Vanarama National League South clash at Parkside against mid-table Chesham United is on.

Millers have slipped to second-from-bottom in after recent results, wo will definitely want to make up ground on rivals in the relegation battle.

They are nine points from safety and with a long trip to promotion-chasing Truro due next weekend, they can ill-afford not to get three points today. Last time out Aveley were defeated 1-0 at Chelmsford, but really should have left with something to show for their spirited performance so manager Danny Scopes, who this week announced the departure of midfielder Luke Allen after 18 appearances, will hope they can carry over their positive attitude.

East Thurrock Community FC's scheduled Essex and Suffolk Border league match at Thorpe Athletic is also a victim of the weather.

Followers of the oval shaped ball game will be wrapping up warn to go and watch Thurrock FC entertain Old Colfeians at Oakfield (3pm) where the artificial pitch comes into its own! Thurrock Thirds have an earlier kick-off against Runwell Wyverns.

If you can't make it, or want to stay out of the cold, you can watch the firsts' match live via this link: http://youtu.be/grOfEJ59cl4. Thurrock are still seeking a first London & SE Division Regional 2 South East win of the season and will need to improve on the 37-3 defeat at Horn Park, lee, in October.

That was just one of four wins achieved by today's visitors, who sit third from bottom in a table propped up by Thurrock.

Tomorrow (Sunday, 12 January), Thurrock T-Birds are at home to Richmond.

Following a pitch inspection earlier today, tomorrow's kick-off has been bought forward to 12:45 to be played on the 4G pitch.

In recent seasons this would be a fixture between two of the Championship's top sides but Thurrock are in mid-table as rebuilding of the team settles in.

Richmond, however, have not gone backwards and top the table with nine wins from ten matches, including a 48-5 win against T-Birds in October.

Last weekend, after a positive pitch inspection at Sutton's training grounds and a great warm-up, the ref didn't turn up so the game against Sutton & Epsom had to be cancelled at the last minute.

T-Birds Seconds are without a match this weekend, but top the NC1 South East (North) table after last weekend's 21-12 win at a wet and muddy Thamesians.

T-Birds scored two first half tries from Nicole Wright (15 minutes) and Gabriella Diana (28), both converted by Kiera Ryan and they were awarded a 51st minute penalty try to complete the scoring.

The Seconds are next in league action at Eton Manor on Sunday, 9 February.
