IT'S FA Cup time this weekend and three of the borough's non-League sides will hit the road to Wembley with away days.
Supporters of East Thurrock United will be hoping to see a first win of the competitive season for the Rocks when they make the trip to the east coast and a date with FC Clacton.
The Seasiders, who play in the Essex Senior League will play host at the Austin Arena to Rocks, who will be seeking to put two Isthmian North division defeats behind them as they bid to cash in and pick up the winners' prizemoney of £1,444. The losers will pocket £481.
Clacton have already enjoyed success in the competition, beating fellow Essex Senior League side Little Oakley in the extra preliminary round – a win given added value by the fact that Little Oakley currently top the division. The Seasiders go into the match on the back of successive 1-0 league wins, most recently at home on Tuesday evening when Jake Clowsley's goal was enough to earn all three points against Buckhurst Hill.
Rocks, who go into the match as favourites, will have to shake off the disappointment of Monday's defeat against hastage United when they were victims of some very poor match officiating.
Grays Athletic travel to Stotfold who play in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, where they have had a mixed start to the season and sit in mid table with a win, draw and defeat to their name. They came through the extra preliminary round with a replay 2-1 win at United Counties League Premier Division South Newport Pagnell Town, having drawn the first meeting 2-2 at their own JSJ Stadium.
Grays have a win and a draw from their opening two encounters in the Isthmian North, the second a strong showing against Maldon & Tiptree on Wednesday evening.
Tilbury also travel around the M25 en-route to their away date at familiar opponents Waltham Abbey, who now play in the Southern League Division One Central where they sit second from bottom, having lost 2-1 at Biggleswade Town in midweek.
Tilbury also had a disappointing midweek game, having the better of their Isthmian North clash with Basildon, but conceded a soft late goal to draw 2-2.
In the Isthmian Premier Aveley will be looking to continue their strong start to the season at home to Bognor Regis Town.
One of just three teams in the division with a 100 per cent record after two matches, the Millers are placed second after wins at Hastings and home to Billericay on Monday evening.
