Thurrock 95, Billericay 3
THURROCK Men's 1st XV turned on the style at Oakfield with a breathtaking performance, recording a 95–3 victory over Billericay RFC — one of the largest wins in the club's history. The result was built on attacking fluency, disciplined defence, and a shared determination to perform for a special cause and has lifted Thurrock to the top of the Counties 1 Essex table.
The day carried added significance as Thurrock proudly donned their alternate blue strip in support of Prostate Cancer UK, helping to raise awareness and funds for men's health. With the Oakfield crowd showing outstanding generosity and spirit, the team's display perfectly matched the occasion.
Thurrock wasted no time asserting dominance. Caolan Watts-Adams powered over for the opening try, Grant Scott adding the extras. Moments later, Jake Jones crossed after some more great work from Caolan, followed by a fine finish from Malachy Watts-Adams, again converted by Scott.
With momentum building, Man of the Match, Jack Cowman added the next, with Alex Baker converting having taken over kicking duties.
Quick thinking from Captain Kodie Holloway saw him put Euan Thomas in for a try under the posts — Baker once more accurate from the tee. Grant Scott then crossed for a try of his own, as he sliced through the midfield, before side stepping the full back. Baker again, added the extras.
It wasn't long after, that top scorer, Nat Farrell joined in on the action as the veteran winger powered past his opposite man to run in from 30 metres. The impressive Euan Thomas then rounded off the first half tries as he took the ball on half way and sprinted past any would-be tacklers to touch down under the posts for his 2nd brace in successive weeks, both of those scores improved by Baker.
By half-time, Thurrock had stormed to a commanding 54–3 lead, with Billericay's only points coming from a penalty.
Any hopes of a Billericay resurgence were swiftly dashed. Malachy Watts-Adams grabbed his second of the day, converted by Baker, before Ant Catchpole crashed over following strong forward carries — Baker again slotting the extras.
Further tries came from Nat Farrell, Jake Jones, Darryl Worster, Jake Barrand (converted by Baker), and Ahmed Aminu, completing an emphatic afternoon's work.
The final whistle confirmed a 95–3 victory, just shy of Thurrock's all-time record 104–0 win over Chingford in 2012. What's more impressive is that both Nat Farrell and Jake Barrand were playing in that game over 13 years ago, with Farrell getting a hattrick.
The performance highlighted the squad's depth, cohesion, and ability to execute clinical rugby from start to finish.
Thurrock travel to Chingford next weekend, looking to carry this blistering form and team spirit on the road.
