THURROCK Council has been asked to give its thoughts on a proposal to demolish Corringham's Springhouse Club and replace it with four blocks of housing and a new sports club.

A submission was made to the council this week for a screening decision on plans for the site on Springhouse Road.

A screening decision (or screening opinion) is the process of determining whether an environmental impact assessment is required as part of a planning application.

Usually such an application would include a location plan, description of the project, a description of the potential environmental effects of the project and other relevant information but in this instance very little information has been added to the council's planning portal.

What the application does state is that the development would involve the demolition of the existing sports club, all associated buildings and removal of hardstanding.

In their place will be four blocks of residential dwellings with associated access roads and parking.

The applicants propose that one block will include a doctors surgery and police office. There would also be a gym.

In addition the new development would include erection of new sports club with associated facilities including bowls pavilion, bowling green and petanque terrain and associated facilities including parking.

There would be two new vehicular access points to the site, following removal of the existing entrance and exit.

Residents are invited to make comments on the application here.
