PUBS, social clubs and hairdressers are getting set to reopen from July 4 after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced today (Tuesday, 23 June) that coronavirus social distancing rules are being relaxed.

From 4 July pubs and restaurants will be allowed to open both indoors and outdoors if they put in safety guidelines including table service online.

Other businesses allowed to reopen will be:

  • Hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites and caravan parks
  • Hair salons and barbers but with visors worn
  • Playgrounds, museums, galleries, theme parks, outdoor gyms and arcades, libraries, social clubs and community centres

However, nightclubs, spas, indoor soft play areas, bowling alleys, water parks, indoor gyms, nail bars, swimming pools and water parks will not be able to reopen at this stage.

In Thurrock local landlord Hayden Leavers at the Sandmartin on Drake Road, Chafford Hundred, is busy getting ready for the reopening.

Hayden and his team have been furloughed during the crisis but are now back at the pub and setting all the mechanisms in place to ensure safe opening. In our video he tells what plans are being put in place regarding ordering drinks, safe distancing, food and even a return of the popular pub quiz.
