EAST Thurrock United earned a second chance in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round thanks to an 86th minute equaliser from Ben Wyss who got on the end of the a Necati Gench cross to take the Rocks to a replay on Tuesday.
Rocks went into Saturday's tie at Rookery Hill with their resources stretched. An already lengthy injury list was compounded by the absence for family reasons of Rimmel Daniel and new signing Ola Ogunwamide is cup tied.
And things got worse early in the match when Daniel's replacement Fahad Nazor had to go off with a hamstring injury.
The remaining Rocks started the game – in front of 204 spectators – at a blistering pace, moving the ball around sweetly, and after Elliot Kettle sent a great effort just over, East Thurrock went a goal up, when Kenny Aileru cut inside and jinked past several defenders before tucking the ball past startled keeper Marcus Garnham.
The Southern League visitors weathered the early storm, and settled into the game, hitting Arthur Janata's post with a header on 25 minutes.
A couple more decent openings for the visitors came and went, and Rocks took their slender lead into the second half.
However, Needham equalised five minutes after the break. There had already been an almighty scramble in the Rocks goalmouth before Luke Ingram set up Ben Fowkes for a simple tap in.
Garnham tipped over a free kick from Alex Hernandez, but it was the Marketmen who went in front when, with 15 minutes left Ingram fired a great ball in, and Kyle Hammond deflected it past Janata.
Rocks were in no mood to give it up though, and after going close on a couple of occasions, they finally grabbed their late equaliser and the teams will try again up in Suffolk on Tuesday evening.
There were also draws for the two borough sides in Isthmian North action.
Grays Athletic came back from Coggeshall Town with a point from a match that won't last long in the memory with both sides in lack-lustre mood and neither keeper given much to do.
David Knight put Grays ahead with a fine strike on 38 minutes and for much of the rest of the match it looked as if it would be enough to win the game but Town got back on level terms from the penalty spot on 85 minutes when Sam Bantick scored.
In the last minute Coggeshall's Jermain Francis was sent off.
There was another late goal at Parkside where an out of sorts Aveley were grateful to sub Manny Ogunrinde for a goal that completed a 2-2 draw, with the Millers coming back from two goals down.
Lionel Ainsworth had stunned most of the crowd of 281 when he gave Swifts, bottom of the table at the start without a point to their name, the lead.
And a real upset looked on the cards on 68 minutes when Andrew Fennell added a second for the visitors.
Alex Akrofi grabbed on back for the hosts on 75 minutes before Ogunrinde stepped up with his point-saving effort.
