RESIDENTS will get the chance to speak to officers from the environment agency about flooding at an event later this month.

On 1st February 1953 gale force winds and a high Spring tide broke through the river wall at Purfleet in four places. Extensive flooding covered the area, as it had along the East Coast and Holland.

A small exhibition to remember the flooding seventy years ago will be on display with film footage at Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre on Sunday, 29 January.

The Environment Agency will be there to answer questions about flooding, the river and how it affects the environment..

The centre is open every week on 'Wednesday', Thursday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 10am till 3pm.

Support the centre, become a member for the bargain price of £12.50, which gives you free access for the year.
