After second day of deliberation jury in Grays murder trial can't reach a decision - they will return tomorrow

AFTER a second day of deliberation without reaching a verdict, the jury in the murder trial of Grays woman Cheryl Banks has been sent home and will return for more deliberations tomorrow (Tuesday, 1 March).

The 12 jurors retured to consider their verdict on Friday lunchtime after hearing four previous days of evidence.

Cheyl Banks, 60, of Lenmore Avenue, is accused of killing her 89-year-old mother Winifred Banks. She has pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

The case at Basildon Crown Court started last Monday and the jurors heard differing evaluations of Mrs Banks' state of health from experts, as well as evidence from members of her family.
