THE Essex Air Ambulance landed early in Tilbury this morning (Thursday, 15 April) following a road accident close to Tilbury station.

Among the first people on the scene was a Thurrock Council bin collection crew who stopped to help and managed a traffic diversion.

A statement from the East of England Ambulance service says: "Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended a road traffic collision on Calcutta Road in Tilbury just after 7.30am this morning.

"One patient was transported to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

A police statement said: "We were called at around 07:25 am this morning (Thursday, 15 April) following a report of two vehicles concerned in a collision at the roundabout of Calcutta Road, Tilbury.

"A Nissan Juke and a Ford Fiesta were involved. All emergency services attended. One woman was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The road was closed for a short time whilst officers dealt with the incident."

On Tuesday emergency services including the air ambulance attended a three vehicle crash on Marshfoot Road.
