Aircraft comes down near Aveley

A LIGHT aircraft crashed near Aveley this afternoon (Saturday, 7 September), with on of its occupants, a man, was rushed to hospital. 

The crash happened at around 1pm near Aveley Road, close to Belhus Country Park.  

Damyns Hall Aerodrome, is in the vicinity but it has not yet been confirmed if that was where the aircraft came from. 

London Ambulance Service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.  An air ambulance also attended.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to an area on Aveley Road, Upminster, at 1.08pm on Saturday, September 7 to reports that a light aircraft had crashed. 

"One male passenger was taken to hospital for treatment. We await an update on his condition."

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch leading enquiries into the crash.
