ORGANISERS have been reflecting on a successful 116th Orsett Show that was attended by thousands of people who enjoyed a wide array of entertainment.

Many voluntary groups including scouts and guides and police, Royal Marine and Sea Cadets were involved in marshalling at the event, on Saturday, 7 September, together with local volunteers who gave their time to support the many competitive categories including horse showing and riding and looked after the general well-being of show visitors.

Show secretary Georgina Clark said: "A sincere thank you to you all for putting on an amazing 116th Orsett Show. The Showground was extremely busy and as I walked around with the President, it was good to see families coming through the entrance.

"I know the run up to this year's Show was particularly difficult with the loss of the cattle and the sheep show but we managed to get in some last minute replacements including exotic animals which went down well. It was also good to see so many horse classes this year.

There was a wide range of entertianment including songs from the past.

"I know only too well how much time and effort each and everyone of you put in to ensuring the Show is the best it can be and that without your dedication the show would not be the fantastic community event that it is."

Those sentiments were echoed by first time show president Nick Thake who said: "Very well done to everyone, I knew it must be hard work but I never realised how much hard work and dedication went into it.

"And thanks to everyone for making me so welcome."

Event sponsors included c2c and main sponsor the Port of Tilbury, whose guests on the day included former borough MP Dame Jackie-Doyle Price.

Mrs Clark also expressed thanks to the many show sponsors and commercial supporters, particularly including main sponsor the Port of Tilbury and c2c.
