MEMBERS of Bulphan WI, including three new joiners, visitors and guests, celebrated the 94th anniversary of the formation of the WI with a village fete-themed party.

Participlants enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea, entertainment from the Rumford Morris team and had the chance to choose a mystery gift from the pick a bag haul.

May saw another jam (excuse the WI pun) packed meeting, starting with a visit from two of the fundraising team at St Luke's Hospice who updated the group about their newest centre in Thurrock and invited rmembers for a visit.

This was followed by an interesting discussion, lead by FEWI Resolution Coordinator Laura, on the 2023 NFWI resolution – 'Clean Rivers', where members found out that Bulphan business and farms with licences were well behaved. It is hoped we can use this as an example to encourage other areas to be the same.

At the annual meeting, a report was given heard in branch finances, followed by a reminder of meetings and events over the past year. The committee received a thank you from Pat H, and Janice Curtis thanked the committee and members for their help in making the WI such a vibrant and welcoming one.

Long service certificates were presented as was the coveted competition cup, this year's winner was Sally W. The elections for the committee and president took place.

A right royal prizewinner.

Members then all collected a glass of Prosecco or non-alcoholic drink ahead of toasting King Charles III and singing the National Anthem. Red, white, and blue clothing, crowns and hats were adorned with gusto, member Linda C won the prize for best headwear.

After a busy refreshment break, where members signed up for trips and events, the last few bits of business were dealt with, and the meeting closed.

If you would like to find out more or attend as a visitor you can find updates about future meetings, information, photographs, and much more on Facebook at Bulphan Women's Institute and on Twitter @bulphanwi or contact the secretary Janet McCheyne on 07752836902 or email [email protected]
