AN 'angry and frustrated' campaigner is calling on fellow residents to lobby Thurrock council's chief executive in a bid to bring an end to long-running concerns over the building of a new community hub.

Community activist Teresa Webster, who has been joined on the warpath by ward councillor Colin Churchman, says the council is failing in its duty of care to residents while it builds a new community hub in Aveley.

She says a major problem is the state of narrow, fenced-off footpaths which give access around the building works.

Mrs Webster says: "I want the council to provide us with an update as to what the plan is as both paths are unacceptable and very slippery with mud on the ground and the pot holes have yet to be addressed.

"To say it is frustrating as both paths were raised with the council before the Hub build.

"Reviewing the original plans for the Hub it does appear that this path will be fenced off and no pedestrian access at the rear i.e. this path.

"Councillor Colin Churchman and myself visited this path again today (Wednesday, 18 December) and he will contacting Thurrock Council too.

"In the meantime, if you are a user of these two footpaths and find them unacceptable, could you please send an email to the CEO of Thurrock Council Lyn Carpenter email [email protected].

"I find it amazing that £2.2 million is being spent on the new Aveley Hub but we are struggling to sort out the paths next to the Hub which are not part of the Hub project.....Frustrating!"
