IN what is likely to be the last event of a busy and eventful summer at Bombers café, the Orsett venue will be hosting another of its popular veterans barbecues later this month.

It will take place on Saturday, 26 September at the café off Brentwood road, near the Orsett Cock Roundabout.

In July Bombers hosted a hugely successful event that raised £1,400 each for the Orsett Hospital Chemotherapy Unit and UK Homes for Heroes.

Bombers owner Chris Martin said the July event summed up the ethos of what Bombers is about and how it supports the local community, saying: "The day wasn't just about raising money. It was about bringing people together, raising awareness, supporting those going through cancer treatment, recognising our veterans, and showing what can be achieved when a community comes together for the right reasons."

Last year comic Jim Davidson visited another of Bombers' events supporting veterans and made a moving speech about his commitment to the cause.
