AFTER declaring its 'reset' process a success, Thurrock Council is to restart brown bin garden waste collections from next Monday.
Collections were stopped last month as the council decided its borough-wide waste services had become too fragmented and too many delays were in place. The council said it needed to get the service 'back on track' and that a number of changes would be implemented, including the suspension of some collection services.
Today (Tuesday, 11 October) environment portfolio holder Cllr Andrew Jefferies said: "I would like to thank residents for patiently bearing with us while we carried out vital work to refresh our household waste collection service over the last two weeks.
"Work has taken place to improve the service and we are now ready to resume brown bin food and garden waste collections from next Monday.
"That means that starting from 17 October all three bins will be collected on schedule as much as is possible – weekly collections of blue recycling bins and green or grey general waste bins and fortnightly food and garden waste collections.
"The brief pause has given us time to look at how we deliver the household waste collection service and make the improvements we need to get it back on track. We know there have been issues for some time now, it was a difficult decision to pause and refresh the service like this but we believe it has really paid off and we are confident residents will see an improvement.
"A lot of hard work has taken place behind the scenes and I would like to thank our waste crews and waste service staff for all that they do.
"We are aware that some food and garden waste bins may be especially heavy following the pause and this may lead to some brown bin collections having to move back a day. If that happens we will let residents know though our social media channels and the council's website."
Brown bin collections will resume with week one collections from 17 October, week two collections will take place in the week starting 24 October. For more information on waste collections visit: thurrock.gov.uk/bindays
