Community congratulated on its efforts as top Conservatives pledge to roll out support for more events in Thurrock
SENIOR Conservatives on Thurrock Council have paid tribute to the community spirit shown in Horndon on the Hill over the past weekend and have pledged to help more local residents stage events on their doorstep and build similar co-operation and rapport between neighbours and local businesses.
The annual Feast & Fayre in Horndon returned after a two year absence because of covid 19 and over Saturday and Sunday thousands of visitors flocked to join the local community as they celebrated the event.
Among those attending were East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe and a number of councillors, including the deputy mayor and local ward representative, Cllr Sue Little.
Her colleagues in the Thurrock Council Conservative group have today (Wednesday, 29 June) said they would like to see more events of this nature across the whole borough and added 'they will endeavour to continue to support community initiatives where possible to bring more and more people together in this post-pandemic environment'.
Cllr Little said: "A big congratulations to everybody who took part, especially the winning children from Horndon Primary School for their brilliant poetry. It was lovely to see so many residents coming out to support the community.
"Stephen Metcalfe and I both agreed that the Thurrock Junior Marching Brass band were exceptional and everybody who took part in this event should be proud."
Orsett councillor and cabinet member for education and children's social care, Cllr Barry Johnson said: "Horndon on the Hill has a tight-knit community and events like the Feast & Fayre at the weekend are a great example of it. I would like to thank the committee and volunteers for all their hard work and a truly great event for residents."
