THE next intake of secondary school students in Thurrock now know where their learning will continue.

Parents have been notified of the decisions of school place allocations starting in September and Thurrock Council's portfolio holder for education says the authority's children's services team have 'once again worked incredibly hard to offer school places to over 2,500 young people'.

Cllr Adam Carter has highlighted the figures revealed by the authority as a positive move, even though almost one in four children did not get their first choice.

Figures reveal that 77.7% of students will be able to attend their most preferred school, with 91.1% of children being allocated one of their top three preferences.

That is an increase of 3.5% more students being allocated a space in one of their top three preference schools in comparison to the year before.

Cllr Carter says: "The children's services team have once again worked incredibly hard to offer school places to over 2,500 young people across Thurrock, as the next group of students make the exciting step up to secondary school.

"It is a tremendous achievement that over nine out of every ten children in Thurrock are receiving one of their top three choices, as we continue to work on placing as many children in local schools as possible.

"I wish all our young people the best of luck as they continue their educational journey and continue to learn, develop and achieve in Thurrock."

Parents who have applied for primary school places starting in September 2023 will receive their school offer on Tuesday 16 April 2023.
