A TILBURY councillor has called on town residents to keep an eye out for a rough sleeper after expressing concerns about his welfare.

Cllr John Allen is worried about the homeless person who is reportedly sleeping in a shed on the allotment located near the high rise flats on Hobart Road!

He says: "We are in sub-zero temperatures and I have concern of this person's welfare and would like to investigate ASAP and provide help. I would like to meet someone who has access to the allotments so we can check.

"I would appreciate a call on 07827231209 if you can help me gain entry this morning (Saturday, 13 February."

Since first publishing this story Cllr Allen has been able to access the allotment and says: "A Kind resident who has an allotment plot has kindly let us gain access and check the sheds. However the person was not found on this occasion!

"On site I meet with a member of the outreach team from Thurrock Council and I will continue to keep a close eye with this case if anyone has any further information. Thank you for all the messages of support that I've received this morning there are a huge number of kind-hearted and good people in the Tilbury community."
