TWO Thurrock councillors are calling on their ward residents to help monitor flights from a local airfield.

Cllrs Srikanth Panjala and Cathy Sisterson represent Aveley and Uplands, and they have experessed concern about the number of aircraft making low approaches and take-off from nearby Damyn's Aerodrome.

Over recent years there have been at least three crashes incloving light aircrat in the area, the most recently last month when a passenger suffered serious injuries.

And in April two people in a plane suffered minor injuries when it came down.

Cllr Sisterson says: "We are trying to ascertain the level of problem of low-flying aircraft, particularly over the Kenningtons estate.

"The rule posted at Damyns Hall is that no aircraft should fly over any of the built up surrounding areas, including Aveley.

"Obviously this restriction helps noise abatement, but it is also a good safety feature in case of engine failure, as seen in the latest accident.

"What we want to do now is get a good clear picture of the situation as experienced by residents.

"We're not trying to stop flights, just the risk of them flying over residential areas

"We would ask residents to log and flights they see and contact us initially.

The councillors' emails are [email protected] and [email protected].
