Developers want more homes on green belt site

DEVELOPERS who have been given permission to build homes in the green belt have gone back to Thurrock Council asking for more.
In January this year a decision was made by officers, rather than the council's elected planning committee, to give permission for five homes on a plot of land currently housing commerical buildings off Brentwood Road, Bulphan.
It is adjacent to Portland House, a large building, and is a collection of light industrial buildings, storage containers, and vehicles set around an unmade parking/turning area.
Offiers had rejected an initial application for seven homes on the site and specified five was the maximum permissible, but applicant Gary Tuckfield has quickly returned to the authority wanting more.
The new proposal again seeks permission for two addition homes "borrowing some extra footprint left over from the approved application".
The application says the planned new homes are a contemporary design with pitched roofs, bay windows, projecting front porches.
In the application to the council the site's agents say: "We hope that Thurrock Council sees merit in our proposal and agrees that the proposed development would in no way be of detriment to the green belt and the surrounding area.
"The additional dwellings proposed will not add any footprint to the development land and will be the same footprint/material and scale of what was previously deemed as appropriate for the site."
The application planning statement adds: "We believe the proposal complements to the already approved development site and is not in any way detrimental to the local area and its site constraints. The plans utilise the site to its full potential and is a modest addition to the existing land.
"The proposal responds to the pattern of historic development, design, detailing and materials of the existing site and local area."
"We are confident that this is a good design that will be beneficial both to our client but also to the surrounding community and housing market.
"Getting this permission would mean that this site will finally be put to good use and be a positive addition to the area and green belt."
