THURROCK residents have been given another chance to give their views on the proposed route of the new Lower Thames Crossing.

While lots of survey and investigative work is being carried out on the planned route no actual construct is permitted yet.

Highways England have now announced a new supplementary consultation.

Local councillor Mike Fletcher says: "This either means our feedback is having an effect or they just want a recount.

"Let's not miss the opportunity folks!"

The consultation starts on Wednesday, 29 January 2020 and will run for eight weeks until Wednesday, 25 March.

The local Thames Crossing Action Group have been examining the information out in the public domain m, saying: "They have provided some details of information events, deposit locations, and info points but the real info and documentation of what the changes will be that they are consultating on will not be available until the launch day.

"It is extremely important that as many people respond to the consultation as possible please.

"The huge response to the Statutory Consultation has already delayed their plans by a year, and the fact they are holding a supplementary consultation should mean some significant changes will be announced.

"They do not have permission yet. They are aiming to submit their Development Consent Order application later this year.  If that application is accepted, it will then go through an Examination period, before ultimately the Sectretary of State for Transport will decide whether to grant the DCO or not.

"Until such time as  DCO is granted Highways England do not have permission to legally start construction of the proposed Lower Thames Crossing."

Thurrock Council's next crossing Task Force meeting takes place from 6pm on Monday 10, February at Thurrock Council offices, New Road, Grays. Members of the public can attend and sit in the public area. The meeting is held in Committee Room One.
