AN event in Corringham to highlight epilepsy has been hailed as a big success by its organisers.

It took place on Saturday (26 March) and was part of the worldwide Purple Day organised by Epilepsy Action.

One of the driving forces behind the event was Lucy Anderson who said: "We had an amazing day and it was well received by so many local people, many of who said they were glad to see someone doing something for a charity that is not so popular or known about.

"Everyone said it was good that we were raising awareness and informing people about what to do if someone had a seizure.

"The information table was good to raise awareness and we sold everything on the tombola. Children loved the hook-a-duck also.

"We were so pleased about how much support we got not only from colleagues in the Morrison store where the event was hosted but also local shops in town, many of who put up fliers and really got behind what we were doing – especially Betty's Bits and Bobs.

"We can't stress enough how overwhelming it was to see the local support we received as not many people are awareness of epilepsy and its impact as it's a hidden disability.

"We want to thank everyone who donated and took part in the day – especially Morrisons - and shared their experiences and stories. It was especially nice to meet the woman who had a dog with Epilepsy as people don't realise animals can have it to but can't tell you it hurts

"We had a poem that my daughter wrote called 'Purple Elephants that we printed on biodegradable paper and glued on Forget Me Not seeds to make people aware epilepsy can affect memory. Lots of people said it was a brilliant idea as the seeds grow into a lovely flower."

Epilepsy Action campaigns for people with epilepsy all year round, raising valuable awareness and funds to support everyone affected by the condition.
