A FLAG in tribute to the NHS has been raised at Stanford-le-Hope's traditional war memorial on on the Green next to St Margaret's Church.

The flag was arranged by borough mayor and local ward councillor Terry Piccolo (who also arranged for a similar flag to fly at the Civic offices in Grays) and resident Trevor Robe.

Another resident, Peter Watson, has paid tribute to their efforts, saying: "I am sure that with the lockdown not many people have been around to notice that the Stanford War Memorial Trust has raised a flag to honour the front line NHS heroes and heroines, some of whom have given their lives in the performance of their duty.

"Thank you to Terry and Trevor for organising and displaying the flag."
