GEORGE Hare, Thurrock's Member of Youth Parliament, has been selected for a national committee that enquires into the most important topics for young people.
George was invited to join the Youth Select Committee (YSC), which brings together select Members of Youth Parliament from across the UK, to scrutinise and hold inquiries into topics that matter most to young people.
The YSC is a National Youth Agency initiative, supported by UK Parliament and Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The committee is made up of 12 Members of Youth Parliament aged 14 to 18, representing all the nations and regions from across the UK.
Previous inquiries conducted by the YSC considered the link between social media and youth violence, the impact of knife crime, and the effects of the cost-of-living crisis on young people.
This year, the committee is conducting a UK-wide inquiry into Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education in Secondary Schools.
The inquiry will explore a range of questions, including:
- Whether PSHE is taught consistently across schools and nations
- How teachers are supported in delivering sensitive topics
- The impact of knowledge gaps on adult outcomes
- How political education can be embedded to support democratic participation
As part of the inquiry, the YSC is particularly interested in hearing from students, guardians, and people working in education about their experiences with PSHE, including how sensitive topics are approached, and how gaps in knowledge may affect outcomes later in life.

George said: "I'm so proud to have been able to join the Youth Select Committee along with other amazing young people.
"PHSE is such an important subject that helps equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need as they grow up. I believe PHSE should be at the heart of the education system and I am eager to explore how it influences young people's long-term outcomes. I'm also excited to hear from others about their experiences and work together to identify any gaps and how they can be addressed."
As part of the inquiry, the Youth Select Committee is inviting written contributions.
Anyone that would like to contribute can submit written evidence by emailing [email protected] by 5pm on Thursday 13 November 2025
