PERMISSION has been granted to demolish Aveley's former library building and public hall on Purfleet Road.

Council services, including the library, are now provided from the nearby newly constructed Aveley Community Hub, which opened in early 2020.

Full details of the demolition plan, granted to the council – by the council – can be found via this link.

Thurrock Council said demolition was necessary because the site was too expensive for it to maintain and run. Once the buildings are demolished, it is possible the site will be disposed of as part of the current 'fire sale' of assets as the cash-strapped council seeks to balance its books.
