______________________________________________________________________ WITH Thurrock approaching the fourth month of lockdown, Thurrock Nub News has been reflecting on the way the borough has dealt with the crisis and the latest developments and guidance that is out there. As things continue to change in line with government guidelines, we will keep updating our pages and informing you of the changes that are being put in place. Sadly the virus continues to take its toll on our community where more than 110 people have now died in the borough from coronavirus-related issues. Among the many stories of loss is the death of a local paramedic whose death was mourned by hundreds during an emotional NHS tribute. Local businesses are using our Local Listing Service to update you of their opening hours and changes to business practices and we welcome more who wish to make use of this free service. More than 100 have now signed up. Thurrock Nub News has kept people abreast of the developments that impact their lives, such as bin collections and the reopening of the civic tip Click here. Among those getting ready to reopen is intu Lakeside. Meanwhile Thurrock Council has been getting on with making sure many of those businesses get quick access to the government cash that is keeping them afloat. The council has already distributed £17.5 million worth of government grants to 1,345 local businesses. Any business owner who thinks they are eligible for one of these grants and has not yet received it should go to Thurrock Council's business rates web pages to find out more about the help on offer and update their contact and payment details via an online form. While businesses are finding it touch to carry on, residents across the borough have been finding ways to keep themselves occupied with virtual events and group chats as they share knowledge and ideas. The council has been supportive of local charities, groups, sports clubs and community organisations making money available to help them through the crisis. And our emergency services are not just handling crime, fighting fires and dashing around under blue flashing lights trying to keep people safe, they too have joined in with helps and tips.Essex County Fire and Rescue instructors have shared their knowledge of keeping fit – and adapted it to help people take exercise in their homes.
