Lights on the tree switched on at Grays festive event

GRAYS High Street Christmas Tree lights were officially switched on by the Deputy Mayor of Thurrock Council, Cllr Sue Shinnick, and local schoolgirl Olivia Thomas from Stifford Clays at a special event last night (Monday, 9 December).

It featured performances of seasonal songs and carols from local schools and organisations, including Quarry Hill and Thameside primaries. The Arts Outburst Choir also performed.

The tree was provided by DP World and Ernst Schulze, Chief Executive Officer for Ports and Terminals in the UK, said: "We're delighted to be involved in the festive season this year with the donation of the Grays High Street Christmas Tree."

Cllr Shinnick added: ""It is fantastic to see this wonderful Christmas tree lit up bringing festive cheer to the high street.

"I would especially like to thank DP World who donated this wonderful tree and Impulse Leisure who sponsored the event.

"I hope everyone enjoys the tree and has a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

"Thurrock has such a fantastic range of local shops and businesses and I hope that as many people as possible will support them by shopping locally this Christmas."
