THERE was fun and excitement at the Essex Wildlife Trust Thameside Nature Discovery Centre at Mucking today (Sunday, 10 September) when its tenth anniversary was celebrated.

Part of the event included runs to raise funds for the Trust and two charities supported by Phoenix Striders (SNAP and Katie's Heart Appeal)

Together with partners Phoenix Striders Walking and Running Club (www.phoenixstriders.org.uk) and Enovert the Trust staged three events around the park, including the newly acquired lake (landscaped by Enovert) to allow all the participants to have a glimpse of the scenery around the reserve.

The events were a 10K run, a 5K run and a Tinies Toddle.

SNAP is a local charity working with the families for children with additional needs or disabilities, over the years several club members have used their services and welcomed the support provided. For more information see www.snapcharity.org

Katie's Heart Appeal is a small local group providing defibrillators and other first aid related kit to the local community across Thurrock https://www.facebook.com/KatiesHeartAppeal

One of those taking part in the tots event was Jasmin, who only learned to walk two months ago. As well as using this as a chance to support the event's chosen charities Jasmin's family used it as a chance to raise money for Macmillan's as this is a charity close to their hearts.

So far, Jasmine has raised £165!
