Little Pingo wants to follow in Luke the Nuke's footsteps
WHILE darts fans across the world were celebrating a first world championship for 17-year-old Luke Littler last night (Friday, 3 January), a Stanford-le-Hope youngster is already plotting his route to the pinnacle of the sport.
George Ping, who was 13 on New year's Day, is already a familiar face at the East Thurrock Community Association Club on Corringham Road where he has been playing for many years in the company of members and his dad, Chris.
Now, having turned 13, he is about to join the competitive junior circuit.
'Little Pingo' as he is known at the club will be taking part in events organised by the JDC (Junior Darts Corporation).
The youngster, who is home taught and has been diagnosed with ADHD and mild autism, just loves his darts and the companionship and friendship at the club, where he has always been made welcome, has played a part in his development.
Dad Chris said: "George didn't always find it easy when he was within school so we elected for home education, but we knew it was important that he was in the company of other people in an environment where he felt safe.
"The club and the local darting community, including teams who have played at ETCA, have done just that.
"Now we are hoping the community can help a little bit more by helping us fund his competitive journey. Members have already made donations behind the bar and if anyone can help, particularly any businesses who might be interested in sponsoring him, I would be grateful if they could contact me on 07944 892958 – or contact the club ([email protected])."
George told Nub News: "I've played since I was four and played with my dad always wanted to play in a men's team which I am now and want to become a professional dart player."
