MORE than £1,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to a fundraiser hosted by sheltered housing residents in Stanford-le-Hope.

Residents at Kynoch Court worked hard to organise the fundraising evening, and thanks to the generosity of residents, friends and family, £1,100 was raised to support the vital work of the cancer care charity.

The fundraising efforts culminated with Cllr Sue Shinnick, Mayor of Thurrock, paying a visit to personally thank the residents. During the visit, she was presented with a cheque for the money raised.

Gillian Finch, one of the organisers, said: "We wanted to do something more than the usual coffee morning and raise as much money as we could, and show people that those of us who live in supported housing don't just sit around drinking tea all day."

Cllr Mark Hurrell, Cabinet Member for Social Housing, also joined the visit to thank the event organisers, and said: "Raising £1,100 in one night is an incredible achievement and a real testament to the energy, generosity and community spirit of our residents."
