Police visit with bells on!

By Nub News Reporter 1st Oct 2025

THERE was an unusual assignment for a borough police officer at the weekend.

On Saturday (27 September) Neighbourhood Policing team officers were on foot patrol around the village of Horndon On The Hill when their visit took an unexpected (and rather rhythmic) turn!

The officers, including PC Javier Rodriguez-Perez, dropped by St Peter and St Paul's church for their 'Let's Talk' event.

Let's Talk drop-ins are a chance for residents to have informal, friendly conversations with local police officers about the issues that matter most to them. No appointment, no pressure – just a chat over a cuppa.

However, during foot patrols, local residents got word that PC Perez was a community engagement officer.

Before he knew it, he'd been gently coerced into joining the Morris Dancers at the Woolmarket – all in support of the Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning.

A police statement says: "We can confirm:

  • Community engagement was achieved
  • Bells were jingled
  • Dignity? …Well, mostly intact!

"A huge thank you to the wonderful residents for the warm welcome, the laughs, and the excellent conversations."
