THE two young people arrested following an incident involving a knife at the Hathaway Academy in Grays yesterday will face no further action.

Police visited the school on Hathaway Road in the late afternoon yesterday (Tuesday, 21 January) after the school was put int 'lockdown' after the alarm was raised.

Today the force confirmed its involvement is ended, saying: "Both will face no further action."

Academy principal Fatima Rodrigues has spoken to Thurrock Nub News about what happened and has offered support to concerned students or their families.

She said: "There was an incident outside of the Hathaway Academy involving two youths who reportedly had a knife.

"The Academy called the police and immediately instigated its own lock down procedures to ensure the safety of our students.

"The police responded to the incident and once the youths were apprehended, our students were released from the site safely at 3:45pm.

"We are working with the police to ensure our students remain safe in the Academy as well as on their way to and from the Academy.

"If either you as a parent/carer or your child feels upset by the incident, please do contact the Academy for support."
