CASH is on the table for an organisation to put together a long term project to support young people in Thurrock.

The funding comes from the Grays-based Riverside Community Big Local team, which is now is now entering the final stages of its activities in the borough.

Big Local was established in 2015 with £1 million from the allocated from the National Lottery's Big Local Fund, which could be spent in any way local people chose over the following 10 years.

It is a partnership governed by residents, with activities organised by residents and for residents in a specific area of Grays close to the Thames and including the town centre, Seabrooke estates, Grays Town Park and Grays Beach.

As it comes to the end of its life, the partnership is looking to focus on supporting sustainable projects which will become its legacy.

Over the past few years Riverside Big Local has funded many short-term projects that have enhanced the life of young people.

They have included festivals, music provision, provided laptops, play park equipment, community horticulture, anti-knife crime events, and 'speak up' self-advocacy.

Outlining the legacy project Big Local says: "We wish to commission / invest in a not-for-profit provision that will provide a long-term sustainable youth service in this area.

"They will be expected to connect to the Social Enterprise Network Thurrock which will provide free business support as they develop their plan.

"We are offering funding of £45,000 for a not for profit organisation to work with us on this."
