EVENTS to raise drivers' awareness of horses and their riders on local roads will take place again this weekend.

Thurrock Nub News was on hand last year to report on the local activities, which are part of a wider national campaign.

The annual Pass Wide and Slow Awareness Ride/Drives feature riders, carriage riders, walkers and cyclists joining together in their local area to highlight the need to pass horses wide and slow.

This Sunday (17 September) there will be a large number of horses and riders on the roads raising awareness as they take part in rides from Horndon on the Hill and North Stifford.

The aim of the rides is to educate drivers on how to pass horses and their riders safely on the roads.

Sunday's event and its participants have the full support from Thurrock Police and they will be attending the rides.

The ride in Horndon will be leaving from Robinson Road at 11am and will take place along local rural roads.

Riders will be stopping halfway through their ride and getting breakfast rolls at the Swan.

Horndon's ride will be sponsored by Paton and Lee Equine Vets and Button Farm. Medical supplies are being provided by Trident Medical Limited.
