Riders make a point about safety when passing horses with rides across region

By Neil Speight 18th Sep 2022

TWO groups of horse riders took part in Sunday's nationwide awareness campaign by taking part in rides at either side of the borough.

The aim was to raise awareness of the danger caused by irresponsible vehicle drivers when approaching and overtaking horses.

More than 200 rides took place nationally on Sunday (18 September), one of them at Horndon on the Hill where seven horses travelled around the village - stopping at the bell for refreshments en route.

In the west, 15 horses took part in a ride from North Stifford to Aveley and back.

Alison Treadwell was the organiser of the event in Horndon and said: "We had seven riders, three walkers and two dogs. It was a lovely ride, and we enjoyed a halfway stop at the Bell who opened early for us. All drivers were very courteous."
