ESSEX Police have responded to the aftermath of the death of a Grays man by issuing a dispersal order in the village where he was shot.

Thurrock Nub News reported earlier today (Friday, 19 June) on the naming of shooting victim Robert Powell who died on Sunday, 14 June after being gunned down the previous day.

The shooting took place in the village of Roydon, a suburb of Harlow, where Mr Powell was attending a party.

This evening a dispersal order was put in place in part of Roydon following concerns about potential crime and anti-social behaviour.

It follows reports of a number of people gathering at an address in Water Lane, this evening.

Essex Police officers attended and spoke to the owner and a statement from the force says they will continue to patrol the area to monitor the situation.

A dispersal order has been put in place until 6am tomorrow, Saturday 20 June.

It covers Water Lane between the junctions with the B181 Epping Road and Brookside, Harlow. The order gives officers the powers to direct anyone causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area.

While police have declined to comment, speculation has linked the death of Mr Powell – believed to a member of the Traveller community – to the death in Grays last weekend of an, as yet, unnamed, member of the Traveller community in Thurrock.

A man has been arrested in connection with that incident, which happened on Stifford Hill.
