Police warn householders planning a holiday after string of 'messy' burglaries

THURROCK police have issed an alert to householders in Grays after a number of burglaries in the Riverside area of the town.

Officers are warning residents to take extra precautions, particularly if they are planning to go on holiday.

The force has produced a map showing the location of a string of offences, where burglars have left a lot of devastation in homes - as well as stealing valuable items.

Police say: "We have seen a recent trend of burglaries in the Grays area, particularly in and around the Riverside.

"This trend has seen properties targeted where the occupants are away on holiday.

"The method of entry into these properties has mainly been cutting through or severely damaging front or rear doors.

"Typically, these burglaries have resulted in "messy" searches, whereby small items such as jewellery, laptops and electronic devices have then been removed.

"We urge communities to consider their options before departing on holiday.
