RAIL services on the eastbound c2c links from Grays were disrupted last night (Monday, 4 September) after a stabbing on a train.

Witnesses have described a fight taking place between two youths, possibly with others involved.

Following the incident, while a police investigation began and the ambulance service treated an injured 16-year-old boy before taking him to hospital, a replacement bus service was deployed between Grays, Tilbury, East Tilbury, Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea.

A statement from British Tranaport Police says: "Officers were called to Grays railway station at around 7.30pm on 4 September following reports of a stabbing on a train. Officers attended alongside paramedics and the station was temporarily closed while officers investigated.

"One 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment – thankfully his injuries are not life threatening or life changing. He has since been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been taken to police custody where he remains.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40 or texting 61016 quoting reference 630 of 04/09. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The statement adds officers are still searching for the other person involved.
