AS Christmas draws ever nearer Thurrock Foodbank has been expressing thanks to many local people who keep coming forward with generous donations.

Among the latest is a significant gift of food and other goods from the 'A Random act of Kindness' Facebook group.

The Corringham-based Foodbank says: "Huge thanks to Nicola Palmer and all the members of A Random Act of Kindness UK Facebook group who came to our warehouse today with a big donation. It weighed an amazing 190kg.

"There will be lots of smiles on our clients and their children's faces. Thank you all for your kindness."

And today (Thursday, 10 December) the Happy House Prayer Ministry arrived at Corringham with 106.9kg of items. Sandra Sawle, Foodbank's business co-ordinator, said: "We are humbled by such generosity and kindness. Our clients will love all these items.

"We are truly grateful for the support of all of our corporate partners and individuals who make such a difference.

"We really couldn't do this without such a fantastic community of individuals, schools, churches and businesses in Thurrock all wanting to help those struggling to feed themselves at this time of year. Plus volunteers sorting and packing items.

"If you still have Christmas items to donate or would like to start a collection now please don't hesitate to contact us it's not too late."

You can do so via Thurrock Foodbank's Facebook page. And you can also check out many other generous donations from local firms, organisations and individuals there.

Meanwhile volunteers have been busy putting together the first batch of Christmas hampers that will go out to clients who've been referred to the Foodbank in crisis.
