THURROCK Council has described residents' response as 'lively and thoughtful' after the first of a series of engagemtn opportunities over its proposals for locval government reorganisation.

Nub News recently reported on the local council's preferred option, of a partnership with Brentwood, Epping and Harlow councils to form a new unitary authority.

On Wednesday (6 August), residents joined an online webinar to learn more about the changes that are happening to councils in Greater Essex.

Hosted by Council leader Cllr Lynn Worrall and council officers, the session gave residents the chance to ask questions, raise concerns, and share their views on the future shape of local government in Greater Essex.

Afterwards the council said: "The discussion was lively and thoughtful discussion, covering a wide range of important topics such as:

  • How visible and accessible the process will be.
  • Protecting community identity and local voice.
  • Job opportunities and economic growth.
  • Fairness in governance and representation.
  • And, how residents and businesses will be kept involved moving forward."

Cllr Worrall added: "A huge thank you to everyone who joined the webinar. Your ideas, feedback and questions really help us understand what matters most to you. We're working hard to make sure your voices shape these changes, and that Thurrock is heard.

"We're committed to keeping you informed and involved every step of the way. This is your council and your community, and your voice truly matters.

"I look forward to meeting more of you at the upcoming in-person public question time event, where we'll have the chance to continue these vital conversations face to face."

More information about the events, including details of how to register to take part, can be found on the council's website at: consult.thurrock.gov.uk/lgr

The next public engagement will be an in-person event, a dedicated Public Question Time for Thurrock residents on Tuesday, 19 August at Thameside Theatre in Grays. Find out more: Public Question Time Event Tickets, Tue 19 Aug 2025 at 19:00 | Eventbrite
