Retirement homes plan on trouble-stricken town road is recommended for refusal

By Neil Speight 16th Oct 2020

PLANNING officers have recommended rejection of an application for seven retirement bungalows on a busy road in Stanford-le-Hope which is already blighted by traffic problems.

Thurrock Nub News reported in August on the application for the demolition of an existing building and the new homes in its place on Wharf Road.

The application comes before councillors next week (Thursday, 22 October) and is recommended for refusal.

Officers say the scheme would result in harm to the character and appearance of the area, the living conditions of existing occupiers surrounding the site and future occupiers of the dwellings.

They add: "The proposal would also be harmful to highways and pedestrian safety due to an inadequate access point to Wharf Road."

Wharf Road has been subject to many traffic problems, and residents and local councillors have frequently raised objections to the amount of traffic it has to suffer - culminating in the formation of a residents action group.
