TO mark today Clean Air Day (Thursday, 20 June) an event will take place this evening to promote proposals for a new cross Thames tram network – and the return of the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry.

A campaign alliance of the 'Bring back Our Ferry' group, The KenEx tram company and local businesses will be taking part in a public and online forum in Gravesend organised by the Light Rail Transit Association.

The discussion will focus on 'Could trams across the River Thames and the Return of Tilbury Ferry reduce killer pollution and increase prosperity and opportunities?'

It will take place in the Three Daws pub on the Town Pier at 7.30pm and is scheduled as part of Better Transport Week (17-23 June).

Speakers at the meeting will be calling for the urgent return of Gravesend Tilbury Ferry to reduce pollution and increase prosperity and opportunities for North Kent and South Essex.

A petition organised by campaigners for the ferry's return has already been supported by 2,000 signatures. You can sign it here: https://www.change.org/p/preserve-the-vital-tilbury-gravesend-ferry-service

And there will be more focus on proposals for the planned KenEx tram system which would link both sides of the Thames with links between Bluewater and Lakeside – with hopes to eventually expand as far as Basildon and Canvey Island.

The meeting is titled "Sustainable Transport across the River Thames" (S.T.A.R.T).

It can be accessed online via Zoom
